In the Regular Branch, instruction follows the Berlin Senate guidelines with a fixed timetable and a half-day model; classes run from 8:00 to 14:25, with additional care before or after class. The Förderverein provides a weekly Frühenglisch course for first and second graders, and from grade 3 Frühenglisch continues; from grade 5 English becomes the first foreign language. The school is housed in a shared building with both branches, and teachers teach in both areas; students may participate in English-language after-school activities, and many school events are bilingual. In the SESB Branch, there is integrated bilingual instruction in English and German from the first grade, with roughly half the class speaking English and half German, taught by German and English teachers. The school provides Schulsozialarbeit (school social work) as a joint responsibility of the school and youth welfare. It views personal life situations holistically through networking with external institutions and develops individual solutions. Schulsozialarbeit is a voluntary cooperation offered to students, their parents, and all staff. It offers counseling for school or family questions, guidance on parenting, social and emotional development support, referrals to external services, and someone to talk to. For students, there are daily fixed consultation hours, individual counseling, conflict mediation, and social learning projects; for parents, counseling by appointment and fixed office hours.
Special education work and support are carried out in collaboration with a multiprofessional inclusion team, comprising subject teachers, the social pedagogue, and inclusion staff. The team works closely with the SIBUZ (Schulpsychologische und inklusionspädagogische Beratungs- und Unterstützungszentren) in the district, which provide school psychology and inclusion guidance. In close cooperation with guardians, the school seeks to develop individualized support systems and solutions for the child's welfare. We are happy to answer questions about these services.
SESB – Europaschule (bilingual SESB) provides bilingual instruction in English and German from the first grade. Each class comprises roughly half English-speaking and half German-speaking students and is taught by a German and an English teacher. In small groups, native-language instruction is provided, and the partner language is taught in small groups. The subjects Topic, Music, and Art, and from Grade 5 Science, History, and Geography are taught in English; Mathematics is taught in German; in Grades 5 and 6 all students also learn French. The SESB concept operates as a bound all-day school with attendance from 8:00 to 16:00 (Wednesdays and Fridays until 14:30).
Mental wellbeing is supported through Schulsozialarbeit, which promotes social and emotional development and offers counseling and support to students. Services include daily student consultation times, individual counseling, conflict mediation, and social learning projects. The program also provides resources for parents and staff to support well-being and positive behavior.
Safeguarding is supported by PIR (Prävention, Intervention, Reflexion) as part of the school's framework. The school publishes a Complaint Policy for handling concerns and conflicts. A school inspection was conducted in March 2025, and the report is publicly available. The school emphasizes a safe, respectful community and applies guidelines to everyday life on campus.
1. The school has two enrollment tracks: the bilingual European School track (SESB) and the regular monolingual track. You may enroll your child in both tracks by submitting separate Aufnahmeanträge for SESB and for the Regelzweig. The regular track does not include the bilingual instruction of the SESB classes. 2. For children starting in first grade, the enrollment process is more complex; enrollment for school entry is detailed in the guidance for new pupils. The enrollment period requires personal submission during the period, at the catchment school and the first-choice school, with the enrollment documents handed in in paper form. If your family has moved or will move, different deadlines apply. 3. When emailing, attach only a PDF file if possible, as we cannot open documents from Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar services. 4. The Aufnahmeantrag must be signed by both parents or legal guardians. If a signature cannot be provided (e.g., due to sole custody), relevant court documents not older than six months at the time of application must be submitted; in the case of a deceased parent, a copy of the death certificate must be provided. 5. Enrollment is possible all year round, but a school change around half-year or at the start of a new school year (approximately February or August/September) is recommended. The school will check whether a place is available for your child, and patience is requested until contact is made. 6. The school does not provide information about the status of your application; you should wait to be contacted. 7. When a place becomes available for your child, the secretary's office will contact you promptly to schedule a language test at the school; online language testing is not possible. 8. Your registration is valid only for the school year for which you registered (the current year and at most the following year) and must be actively renewed by you. 9. Registration is governed by a checklist of documents: a copy of the child's birth certificate; copies of the guardians' ID documents or passports; a copy of the last school report (if the child already attends school); a copy of proof of measles vaccination; proof of residency (Berlin residents provide a current registration for both parents and the child; non-Berlin residents provide a note about the planned move – a Berlin registration must be obtained as soon as possible, at least one day before school starts). If the school is not the catchment school, provide the form for change of school; for the first grade, a copy of the transfer forms may be required.
Registration is possible all year round; a school place is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. When a place becomes available, the secretary's office will contact you as soon as possible to arrange a language test at the school. An online language test is not possible. The school does not provide ongoing status updates about your application; please wait for contact.
