Common Core State Standards, International Baccalaureate Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, and Spanish National Standards form the foundation of the school's curriculum, with other internationally recognized standards also used. The program provides a standards-based progression from Preschool through graduation. Instruction is delivered by qualified teachers and emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills needed for lifelong learning. Although separate curricular standards exist for each discipline, instruction is integrated and cross-curricular so students apply learning in real-life contexts. Since 2004 ASV has offered the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB DP), and the IB Diploma Program pathway is available in high school, taught in English. In addition, ASV offers Global Experiences such as World Language Acquisition, Model United Nations Program, and Global Exchanges.
ASV provides a comprehensive university orientation program for High School students to assist with selecting and applying to Spanish, American and international universities. University Counseling offers resources, information, and a series of talks, workshops and university fairs to help explore each student's career choices and university options. Special guidance is offered for American and international universities in the European Union, United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
The Counseling Department provides personal, social and emotional supports including individual and group counseling for students, and guidance for parents. Topics addressed with students and families include study habits, friendships and healthy relationships, and balanced styles of living. Support and resources are provided to students going through periods of stress or anxiety.
English is the principal instructional language. International students without prior instruction in Spanish are offered Spanish as an Additional Language (SAL), which is adapted to their language needs and emphasizes communication skills and daily use of Spanish. German or French are also offered as world languages, with English remaining the primary language of instruction in the curriculum.
Counseling supports promote mental wellbeing through personal, social and emotional services, including individual and group counseling and parent guidance; staff address stress or anxiety and provide resources for students. The school provides ongoing access to counseling to support students' wellbeing.
ASV has robust Child Protection Protocols. The Child Protection Team participates in safeguarding training, including a two-day workshop led by the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC), to strengthen policy decisions. Regular annual child protection training keeps practices current and effective, fostering a safer learning environment for all students.
1. Start the application through OpenApply, ASV's digital admissions platform. Determine the appropriate entry level for your child: PreKinder 3 if born in 2022, or Nursery for births in 2023 or 2024. Create an OpenApply account and begin the Application for Admission; you can also schedule a guided tour or apply now online.
2. Submit the Application for Admission in detail and include transcripts for the previous three academic years as appropriate. Include any standardized test scores as part of the materials. Admissions interviews and evaluations are conducted at all grade levels (Nursery through Grade 12) at the discretion of the school.
3. Admissions Evaluation is conducted as part of the comprehensive process, with English and Mathematics assessments and MAP used for English reading and Mathematics. Evaluations may take place at ASV or at the applicant's current school; if testing abroad, provide a staff contact who can supervise the examination.
4. Admissions Criteria include multiple factors such as academic suitability, evaluation results, grade level availability, educational philosophy compatibility, alumni status and English proficiency. Each Application for Admission is reviewed individually by the Admissions team to determine compatibility with ASV's standards.
5. Communicating the Decision: The school informs families by telephone, email or OpenApply about the decision. An admission requires enrollment within ten days; documents and payments not received in that period place the student on the Waiting List. Non-admission is communicated if the applicant does not meet the Admissions Evaluation requirements.
6. Waiting Pool: If there is no space in the relevant grade, the family may be placed on the Waiting Pool. When a space becomes available, ASV revisits all waiting list applications and applies admission criteria to offer the place to the most suitable candidate.
7. Starting at ASV: You will receive a Welcome email in July, or upon registration if you enroll later, with key dates, basic supplies list and your school accounts and passwords. You will also receive a Welcome email from the Principal with additional information, and all relevant details are available in the ASV OpenApply app.
ASV Foundation Summer Scholarships are offered for participation in the ASV Summer Program. Recipients spend part of their holidays learning English and sharing experiences with peers from Valencia and other towns. The program was publicly recognized in 2018 during a school assembly.
ASV maintains a waiting list. If an applicant is offered a place on the waiting list, availability is typically reviewed in March when current students re-enroll for the upcoming academic year, with openings possible as late as September. When a space becomes available in the grade concerned, the school revisits all waiting list applications and applies admission criteria to offer the place to the most suitable candidate.
