Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

BSV provides a nurturing, inclusive learning environment that empowers students to achieve academic excellence and personal growth by balancing academics, relationships and character development. Our children feel appreciated, taken care of, motivated, and prepared for learning. The school nurtures an all-round personal development and social integration. Our teachers invest time and dedication to improve student wellbeing, guiding their emotional and social growth. There is an emphasis on open communication and collaboration between home and school to support wellbeing and build a connected learning community.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school is committed to the fair treatment of all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and/or disabilities (SEND). The policy aims to remove disadvantages by ensuring access to appropriate educational provision, not treating pupils with disabilities less favourably, and making reasonable adjustments to prevent disadvantage in admission and education. The school ensures that pupils with SEN and disabilities participate fully in school activities and keeps families informed about any special educational provision and progress. The policy recognises GDPR obligations and requires that families are informed about the provision available for their child. SEN is defined as a learning difficulty or disability requiring special educational provision and includes conditions such as autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, semantic processing difficulties and related medical or mental health needs; it also states that home language differences are not in themselves SEN.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

BSV offers a British education following the English National Curriculum, with Early Years to Sixth Form. The curriculum strengthens links with Britain and Spain and aims to integrate students socially and academically. English proficiency is high, and students must have sufficient English to follow the curriculum, with language assessments conducted to support integration. Inclusive support for international students includes welcome programmes with orientation sessions and a buddy system, Spanish as a foreign language classes, and personalised tutoring for individual guidance. The school integrates English as the language of instruction across the curriculum and supports multilingual development and social inclusion.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental health and lifelong emotional wellbeing are high priorities for the school. The mission commits to promoting good mental health for all members of the school community and to lifelong emotional wellbeing. There is an emphasis on open communication between home and school to support wellbeing within a secure, constructive learning environment. The aims include developing resilient, engaged learners who can collaborate with others and demonstrate empathy and emotional awareness.

Safeguarding

The safeguarding and child protection policy defines safeguarding and child protection and sets out procedures for early intervention, reporting concerns, and working with external agencies to promote pupils' welfare. It describes the roles of Cognita safeguarding leads, the school's safeguarding coordinators, and local authority contacts, as well as data protection considerations under GDPR. The policy covers risk areas such as neglect, abuse, radicalisation, exploitation, and online safety, and it aligns with local safeguarding requirements and Cognita's safeguarding framework.
