Introduction

ISLA Academy in Manacor, Mallorca, opened in September 2024 to deliver British education with a distinct focus on sport and outdoor learning. The school follows a British curriculum framework, preparing students for Cambridge IGCSE and A-level examinations, with Cambridge IGCSE and Edexcel IGCSE options. Instruction is in English and Spanish, with daily language support in both languages. The program blends core subjects with project-based learning and frequent outdoor experiences, using the natural environment—forests, beaches, and campus spaces—for field trips, science investigations, and physical education. Each pupil receives an Individual Learning Plan to tailor progression for all abilities and diverse backgrounds, supported by a remedial teacher and an educational psychologist. Facilities emphasize movement and wellbeing: most days include outdoor lessons, sport, and field activities. A collaboration with Mallorca Art School enriches visual arts, while a range of on-site clubs and Discovery Days extend learning beyond the classroom. This approach supports learners.

Every child receives an individual learning plan that considers strengths and needs, helping them grow socially and emotionally. Language support is woven into daily lessons to help all learners participate and build confidence in social interactions. Sport and outdoor activities are embedded in the weekly rhythm to foster teamwork, cooperation, resilience, and enjoyment of the outdoors, with activities such as gymnastics, athletics, capoeira, martial arts, yoga, and horse riding. A learning support team, including a remedial teacher and an educational psychologist, supports students with higher abilities or special educational needs and works with families to review progress.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)
