Learning Support provides services for students with mild learning differences to meet their diverse needs, including collaborative planning with teachers, in-class support, short-term interventions, small group instruction and collaboration with external specialists. Accommodations for assessments are provided in line with recommendations by external professionals.

The school provides healthy school meals and nutrition education. Canteens are operated to the highest food-safety and hygiene standards, with a focus on fresh ingredients and no additives wherever possible. ISL is nut-free / allergy-aware; the food service avoids nuts or nut derivatives and staff are trained to manage anaphylaxis; a Food Committee collects regular feedback from students and staff to improve dining quality.

The school is governed by a Board of Governors elected for three-year terms by the members of the ISL Association. The Board delegates day-to-day operation of the school to the Director and sets the mission, strategic objectives and policies to guide the school's development. ISL provides Early Years (Ages 3-5), Primary Years (Ages 6-10), Middle School (Ages 11-14), and High School (Ages 14-18). In High School, most students study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Grades 11-12. ISL is pursuing IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) authorization; Grades 6-8 currently follow the MYP framework while Grades 9-10 continue with Cambridge IGCSE, with full MYP implementation planned by 2027-2028. ISL offers a Learning Assistance Programme (LAP) with one-to-one volunteer support for students of any age, addressing needs such as language support, development of self-esteem and socialisation. LAP volunteers are trained and matched with students for regular sessions. The Learning Support team collaborates with students, teachers and families to foster healthy development and prepare lifelong, independent global citizens.

Learning Support provides services for students with mild learning differences, offering inclusive and differentiated instruction, in-class support, short-term interventions and small-group instruction. Supports are determined through collaborative planning with students, parents, teachers and specialists, and may include collaboration with external professionals. The program notes that certain services are not provided on-site, including speech and language therapy, fine/gross/sensory motor therapy, intensive or long-term socio-emotional therapy, and complete psychoeducational evaluations. Testing accommodations require a full psycho-educational or psychological evaluation by a qualified external professional; parents should consult the school before pursuing external services.

The EAL programme helps students gain competence in English to succeed academically and integrate fully into the social life of the school. Beginner EAL students spend time each day in classes designed for them, while also benefiting from contact with other students in the regular classroom and the wider school community. ISL combines formal instruction in English with participation in the regular curriculum and social interaction, and current offerings include English A / IGCSE English A, EAP and EAL; English Language B is offered in Grades 11-12 for suitable tracks.

ISL provides support and care for emotional and psychological wellbeing through pastoral care and counselling.

STEP 1. Online Application & Tours

Begin with the online application. An optional guided campus tour can be scheduled on the same day as the admissions interview or separately. Invitations are sent by the Admissions office after the online application and all required documents.

STEP 2. Interview & Testing

Upon completion of the online application and submission of all required documentation, the family and applicant are invited to an Admissions Interview and family meeting with the Head of Admissions and often other Admissions Committee Members. We prefer to meet families in school, but online meetings and admissions testing are available if in-person attendance is not possible. The interview process differs by age group. Foundations (children aged 3 as of August 31) and Pre-Kindergarten (children aged 4 as of August 31) participate in group interviews; sessions typically begin on Saturdays in late January for 2-3 weekends and continue later in spring, with individual arrangements if needed. Kindergarten involves individual admissions interviews. Grades 1–5 involve an essay writing component, and, if English proficiency is sufficient, a MAP test; English language learners may be asked to complete English placement assessments; interviews may be onsite or online for families outside Luxembourg. Grades 6–10 require a CAT4 assessment, an online English placement test if English is not the first language, with additional testing in English writing and Mathematics sometimes requested; applicants have a separate discussion with a relevant admissions committee member. Grade 11 requires a CAT4 assessment, an online English placement test if needed, an English essay, and a Mathematics test, followed by a separate admissions discussion. STEP 3. Decision

For the ongoing school year, decisions are shared within 10 school days after the admissions interview. For the next school year, foundations and pre-kindergarten first decisions are available mid-February; Kindergarten through Grade 11 first decisions are available late March or early April, thereafter within 10 school days after the admissions interview. An accepted applicant may be placed in a waiting pool due to temporary space constraints. We work closely with families in the waiting pool and contact them promptly to offer openings in their grade level when space becomes available.

Luxembourg

Daily life is staged by level: Early learning and Spillschoul start at 7:30–8:30 and finish at 12:30; primary classes begin at 7:45 with dismissal around 1:00 for 1st–2nd (and variations up to 3:00 for 4th–6th). Secondary starts at 8:00 and ends around 1:50–5:00 depending on timetable. After-school care runs until 5:30 PM.

The school has a canteen where meals can be brought from home or ordered; the ordered meals are delivered daily, and where possible come from an organic-certified provider.

The school is governed by Veräin fir Waldorfpädagogik Lëtzebuerg, a non‑profit association that runs the Fräi‑ëffentlech Waldorfschoul Lëtzebuerg, the Maison relais Waldorf, and a Waldorf kindergarten. The association is managed by the Gesamtleitungskonferenz (GLK), which includes a representative from each organ—Kindergarten, Primary, Middle, IB Conference, Daycare, and Parents Conference—and 2–4 members of the Expert Conference. Pedagogical coordination, IB coordination, and administrative coordination are automatic GLK members and do not have voting rights, except the IB Coordinator who has a vote on IB decisions. The GLK meets three times a month.

The school provides a Waldorf curriculum from early learning through the final years. Early learning is optional; Spillschoul lasts two to three years. The 1st through 6th primary years are taught by a form teacher for six years, then by a regent (mentor) until the 11th class. The secondary years run from 7th to 11th, including an IB preparatory year. The International Baccalaureate programme is offered for two years, with French predominant and some courses in German or English. New students may join a class at any scholastic level.

Waldorf education enhances and supports the development phases of childhood. The uniqueness of Waldorf lies in how and when subjects are taught. The approach focuses on the development of the whole child—intellectual, physical, emotional, spiritual and moral. The learning path follows a balanced progression with the heart, hand and head guiding growth. Subjects are introduced when the child is developmentally ready to spark curiosity.

SEPAS (Psycho-social and scholastic guidance service) is available to students. SEPAS provides psycho-social support and scholastic guidance. Preschool uses Luxembourgish. Primary uses German mainly, with French and English introduced as foreign languages from first class. In secondary, French is increasingly used as the vehicular language, German decreases, and English remains a foreign language. In the International Baccalaureate, French is the main language, but some courses are taught in German or English.

The school admits students with a range of abilities and backgrounds. There are no hard-and-fast rules for acceptance. Admission depends upon space availability, age, and an assessment of the student's physical, emotional, and intellectual development and needs. An ideal class includes children with different gifts and abilities to reflect the social structure of society. The application form should be completed with a photo of the child. If a place is available, the class teacher will contact the family for an appointment with the child. For Kindergarten and Pre-School the educators decide after meeting with the parents and child, and send an official decision letter. For Primary and Secondary, after the in-person meeting, the child is invited to attend classes for one or two weeks; at the end of the trial period another conversation takes place to make the final decision. There is a waiting list for Primary and Secondary; however, applicants are invited to apply anyway. For the International Baccalaureate, the process is slightly different. Application forms for Spillchoul (Preschool) and for Primary, Secondary and IB are available in German and French.

The school has a social fund which provides financial support for families with limited resources; tuition can be adjusted based on income; families must declare yearly household income to apply for support, and all families receiving financial aid must declare their income at the start of each academic year.

Primary School at OTR International School is a bilingual program for G1–G5 with 50% French – 50% English, following the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). Teaching is delivered equally in French and English through a co‑teaching and language‑rotation model, with specialized courses in Theatre, Visual Arts, Sports/PE, Computer Science, and Library. The PYP develops curious, reflective, ethical, and communicative learners and uses interdisciplinary units of inquiry; primary goals include bilingual proficiency, cross‑disciplinary skills, and preparation for entry into the international middle school (MYP).
