Deutsche Schule Madrid is a German school and a bilingual German–Spanish institution in Madrid. It serves students from ages 3 to 18 and follows the German curriculum, with an orientation year in class 5 and tracks leading to Gymnasium or Haupt-/Realschule based on ability. The Abitur is completed after class 12 and is recognized for university study in Germany and Spain. German is the profile-defining subject, and instruction aligns with the standards of German Gymnasien, including native-level reading, writing, speaking and literary competencies. For German as a Foreign Language learners, extra language support is offered in the E-Zweig with integration into native-language classes by grade 9 and additional weekly hours. The campus at Montecarmelo features libraries, dedicated rooms for music, art and the sciences, an auditorium, a canteen, and a modern sports hall and football field. The school emphasizes multilingual competence, mathematics and science, and opportunities in music and arts.

Kindergarten for ages 3-6. Grundschule covers grades 1-4 for ages 6-11. Sekundarstufe (Sekundaria) has eight classes (grades 5-12) up to the Abitur at age 18.

In Grundschule, a half-day schedule runs from 8:15 to 13:35; a full-day option ends at 16:35. In Sekundarstufe, there is no full-day option; classes end between 14:20 and 16:40 depending on the class and day. The morning timetable runs from 8:15 to 13:35.

Annual tuition at Deutsche Schule Madrid ranges from EUR 4,450 to EUR 5,995 for 2026/27.
Deutsche Schule Madrid teaches German Curriculum for students aged 3 to 18.
The Deutsche Schule Madrid uses German curricula in Secundaria, with an orientation year in class 5 and placement into Gymnasium or Haupt-/Realschule tracks according to ability. The Abitur is taken after class 12 and is recognized for university study in Germany and Spain. German is the profile-defining subject; instruction follows the standards of German Gymnasien, with native-level reading, writing, speaking and literary competencies targeted. For German as a Foreign Language learners in the E-Zweig, there is additional language support and by the 9th grade integration into native-language classes, with two extra weekly hours of German provided to support integration. The curriculum emphasises multilingual competence, solid mathematics and science education, and the development of musical and artistic abilities, with goal- and outcome-oriented learning to foster communication, collaboration, and personal development.
Graduates can pursue higher education at universities in Germany and Spain. The Abitur certificate is recognized in both countries and authorizes admission to German and Spanish universities.
The school's gifted and talented program began in 2022/2023 and is integrated as a systemic part of the school, involving leadership, teaching staff, the school counseling service, parents and students. Two coordinators manage the program: the School Psychologist for Giftedness (Christine Füssel) and the Coordinator for Giftedness (Daniel Alpañés Freitag). Identification of gifted students occurs through testing and screenings, with the development of individualized enrichment or acceleration plans and guidance for families and staff; information and presentations for families have been provided and downloadables are available.
The Deutsche Schule Madrid is a Begegnungsschule (a school of encounter) and welcomes families of all nationalities. Voranmeldung for Kindergarten and the School (Classes 1–11) for the 2026/2027 school year is accepted from 15 October 2025 to 31 January 2026. Register in the Voranmeldung portal.
After the application deadline, applications and documents are reviewed. Depending on available places, we inform before the Easter holidays whether admission is possible or whether a place on the waiting list is offered.
The headmaster decides on a case‑by‑case basis whether the child must take an admission test in German or in other subjects.
Das Anmeldeverfahren Klassen 1-11 (the admission process for Classes 1–11) requires: the school is a Begegnungsschule and welcomes families of all nationalities; the cutoff date for enrollment in Class 1 is August 31, and children should have turned six before September 1 of the enrollment year; German language knowledge is required because instruction is conducted entirely in German according to the German curriculum; if attending DSM due to language barriers is not possible, Rama E side-entry is offered for fourth-graders without German knowledge to learn German in the afternoon with the option to join in 5th grade; knowledge of Spanish is not required, but Spanish is a mandatory subject and can be learned at all grade levels; please also note the IPS (Spanish Integration Phase).
Pre-registration is via the Voranmeldung registration portal; admission and enrollment follow after review of the application and documents.
Some interesting aspects at a glance include: a double qualification pathway with the German International Abitur and access to German and Spanish universities and other international institutions; if your child has no German knowledge, consider the side-entry option for non-German-speaking students; at the end of the school career, students graduate with four languages: German, Spanish, English and French (French as an elective); there is a virtual campus tour and an information brochure; fees are listed in the Gebühren section.
