Introduction

Scandinavian School of Madrid is a Swedish international day school serving children from 18 months to 18 years. The school operates two sections: a Swedish section where instruction is in Swedish and an International section where instruction is in English. The International section follows the Cambridge curriculum, with preschool through secondary education and a Sixth Form offering Cambridge A-Levels. Cambridge Checkpoints are taken at the end of Year 6 and IGCSE at the end of Year 11. - Tuition and most recurring charges are published as annual amounts. The school permits three payment schedules: annual, semestral (due 15 September and 15 February) or monthly (10 payments: August through May). Per-term (semestral) and per-month amounts below are calculated from the published annual amounts (semestral = annual ÷ 2; monthly = annual ÷ 10).

Admissions and one-off fees (applies to both sections)
- Registration fee (cuota de inscripción): EUR 360. Payment due on submission of the application form. This fee is refunded if the school cannot offer a place. Each additional sibling: EUR 60.
- Enrollment fee / Matrícula: EUR 500. Single payment per family due to confirm a place. Non‑refundable.
- Deposit: EUR 500. Paid when a place is confirmed; charged per sibling. Refundable within 60 days after the pupil leaves, provided there are no outstanding debts.

Consequences of late or missed payments and penalties
- If any fee from the previous semester remains unpaid, the pupil will not be permitted to return the following semester without written authorisation from the school and the place may be reassigned. Late payment of optional services (canteen, bus, extracurriculars) may result in interruption of those services. Returned direct debit / bank charge penalties are charged to the family.

Billing calendar and invoicing notes
- The school publishes a billing calendar showing which concepts are invoiced in each month; recurring items such as tuition, meals, route, extended hours, EAL and extracurriculars are listed across August–June. Specific exam, credentialing and reservation charges appear in the months indicated. Semestral due dates are 15 September and 15 February for items billed semestrally. Some single‑item charges (e.g., excursions, exam fees, reservation) are invoiced in the months shown on the billing calendar.

Refunds and non‑refundable items
- Registration fee (EUR 360) is refundable if no place can be offered. Enrollment fee / matrícula (EUR 500) is non‑refundable. The deposit (EUR 500) is refundable within 60 days after the pupil leaves provided there are no outstanding debts. Material fees and excursion fees are not refunded if a pupil leaves during the course. Reservation-of‑place payments are refundable under the conditions stated in the admission documents.

Boarding / residential provision
- The school does not list any boarding or residential provision and no boarding fees are published. Transport, meals and extended hours are offered as optional paid services.

Accepted payment methods and administrative instructions
- The school uses direct debit (domiciliación bancaria) for recurring charges and specifies direct‑debit dates for various fees. The school accepts childcare vouchers / cafeteria cheques such as SODEXO, ACCOR, EDUCAINFANTIL for payment where applicable. Parents are instructed to include the pupil's name in the payment concept when making application payments. Curriculum

Two sections operate within the school. The Swedish section uses Swedish as the language of instruction, while the International section uses English. The International section follows the Cambridge program, with instruction in English. Education is offered from pre-school through high school, including preschool, primary education, secondary education/ESO, and sixth form/bachillerato. The pedagogy combines internationally successful educational methods with Scandinavian values, emphasizing critical thinking and lifelong learning.

Admissions

Admissions

Open House visits: To receive more information about the school, sign up for Open House visits online or on-site. Meetings are usually conducted in English. We will be happy to welcome you and your family and show you around the school.

Enrollment and admission priorities: The school maintains open enrollment and accepts new students throughout the year. In courses with a waiting list, siblings of students already admitted and children of Nordic origin will be given preference for admission. The school also strives to form groups with balanced numbers of boys and girls, ages and language abilities.

Application for a place: Fill in and return the registration form (scanned by e-mail) together with the rest of the required documents. Pay the registration fee (see fees in the menu on the left). It is important to put the name of the student in the concept of the payment. Once the school has received the registration form and the payment of the registration fee, the student will be placed on the waiting list. If the application is for Year 1 and upwards (from 5 years old), we may invite the student to take a placement test.

Placement timeline: During the month of February we will confirm places for the following academic year for families whose children already attend the Scandinavian School and from March onwards we will be able to start offering the available places in the order of the waiting list.

Waiting list communication: By approximately mid-March we will have contacted the families on the waiting list, either to offer you a place for your child or to inform you that we have no places available.

Securing a place: In order to secure the place that has been offered to you, you must pay the registration fee and deposit.

If no places are available: If there are no places available, you will have to decide whether to keep your child on the waiting list or remove him/her from the list.

Year-round admissions: We admit students during the school year if there are places available.

Waitlist

Waitlist overview: The school maintains a waiting list for applicants when capacity is reached. In courses with a waiting list, siblings of students already admitted and children of Nordic origin are given admission preference. Places for the following academic year are confirmed in February for families already enrolled, and from March onward, available places are offered in the order of the waiting list. By mid-March, families on the waiting list are contacted regarding available places or the lack thereof. Places are secured by paying the registration fee and deposit. The school admits students during the school year if places are available.
